EOC-P1 - School Bus Scheduling and Routing
SECTION E: Operations (Property and Transportation)
Establishment of Routes
Routes shall be established with consideration given to safety, costs, and road conditions, so as to provide the safest and most efficient transportation system possible for the students.
The Transportation Supervisor shall, in consultation with the Bus Drivers and the ward Trustees, and prior to the end of August of each year, design and schedule individual routes for the following school year.
Routes will be established so as to provide a seating space for every student, and wherever possible, riding times are not longer than one hour prior to arrival at the first school.
The Transportation Supervisor shall maintain copies of finalized route maps and schedules for the upcoming school year.
Drivers and School Principals will receive schedules of their individual routes prior to the commencement of each school year.
Parents may obtain a copy of their individual route schedule from the receiving school.
No change in bus routes shall be made without the prior written authorization of the Transportation Supervisor.
Upon request, bus routes, schedules, and maps may be provided to appropriate municipalities.
School Bus Route Changes
The Transportation Supervisor is authorized to change routes without formal Board approval, provided that extra buses are not required.
The Transportation Supervisor may, at his/her discretion, assign a student from one bus route to another bus route in response to a reasonable request from the parents, if there is room on the bus and no change is made to the route mileage or time to accommodate the student.
The ward Trustee(s) will be consulted/advised accordingly.
