Policy# 2 - Board Governance Model

The Prairie Spirit School Division Board is committed to efficient and effective governance and a governance model that:

• Focuses Board energy on oversight and high-level decisions affecting student learning and achievement, rather than the daily activities and operations of the school division.

• Regularly reviews the Board’s vision of the future based on new information, including input from the community and advice from educational experts. 

• Maintains Board-approved policies, strategic priorities and annual budgets that are aligned with the vision of the future.

• Provides for continuous improvement of the governance model through learning, a program of professional development, evaluation, and assessment.

• Delegates administrative authority to Senior Administration, unless otherwise defined in Board policy. 

• Monitors results and compliance with Board policies and considers this when evaluating the performance of the Board and Senior Administration.

• Ensures accountability to the position of trust in which the Board has been placed by its community.

• Fosters teamwork and a climate of trust.
