Donny Johnston is an outstanding junior at Pinelands High School. He is the senior editor to the advisor, Mrs. Toal. Donny also loves to write about all his favorite teachers who inspire him, and he is a very outgoing person. He has one future goal: to be the most fantastic newspaper editor ever. Donny Johnston was inspired to join this club because Mrs. Toal is the greatest and is his favorite teacher. Lastly, when Donny was asked what a true newspaper reporter should be, he said they must be nice and very friendly with everyone.
Jocelyn Schults is an 11th-grade student at Pinelands Regional High School. She is a Cat Chronicles reporter and senior editor following Mrs. Toal. She plays tennis, basketball, softball, and is in various clubs like SADD, Lead and Seed, Wildcats in action, FBLA, science club, French club, and Class officers 2027. A fun fact about her is that she loves to be inclusive within her community. Mrs. Toal inspires her to grow and love the art of writing. Jocelyn believes patience and ambition will lead you to succeed in The Cat Chronicles. Her goals include attending Clemson University to earn her bachelor’s degree in dental to later become a Dentist. One story she is looking forward to covering is current events within the community.
William Targett is an 11th grader at Pinelands. He is the captain of the senior editors and runs the club following Mrs. Toal’s instructions. He joined the club because he fell in love with the Cat Chronicles and what it stands for. His favorite topic to report on is sports. A fun fact about him is that he can backflip and plays on a travel basketball team. His future goals and dreams are to share his love of the newspaper club with all. His mom inspires him in his everyday life, especially in storytelling. He believes you need listening and critical thinking skills to join The Cat Chronicles. One story he is looking forward to covering this year is the rise of the Wildcats basketball team, a new and inexperienced team that will come together for one goal: A banner.
Dylan DiFrancia is a fantastic Junior at Pinelands Regional High School. He is one of four senior editors whom Mrs. Toal recruited. He can't wait for basketball to start so he can tell everyone about it. One fun fact about Dylan is that he plays the piano. He would love to be a real estate agent or play basketball outside high school. Walt Whitman inspires Dylan; he thinks perseverance is the most important trait or skill a reporter can have, and he loves writing about anything.
Alex Hickey is a 10th-grader at Pinelands Regional High School. He is a reporter for the newspaper club. Alex joined the club to become a better writer. His favorite topics to write about are sports, nature, animals, and community. Along with the club, he plays football and volleyball. He is also undecided on what he wants to do after school, although he does want to go to college and pursue a good career. Alex looked inside himself and realized he actually really liked writing, and he wanted to join the club. Alex believes the greatest skill in reporting is finding important information. He also looks forward to writing about both the schools' and the football teams' history.
Chris Husni, an 11th grader at Pinelands Regional High School, is ready to make an impact as a reporter in his school club. He's excited for the great opportunities there are to sharpen his writing abilities. Chris loves sports, including baseball and basketball, so you can count on him to write you stories about those topics. Chris is a new student at Pinelands, having come from Pennsylvania. He is currently an active student-athlete playing both basketball and baseball. He has many goals, but his top goal is to go to college and find a job that really interests him. Chris is inspired by the fact that his dad can tell a great story no matter what the topic is. Chris believes there are many different skills you need to be a reporter, but nothing is as important as communication. In the future, he hopes to write a great story about the sport he loves, baseball!
Liam McNally is a Pinelands Regional High School student known for his curiosity, creativity, and positive attitude. He enjoys exploring new subjects, participating in school activities, and working with friends on projects and challenges. Outside the classroom, Liam always looks for ways to grow through hobbies, sports, or helping others. With a strong drive to succeed, he is focused on building his skills and shaping a bright future. A fun fact about Liam is that his mother comes from Belarus. Liam’s mother believed that joining a club would give him new skills and ideas for the future.
Lorelai is an 11th grader at Pinelands Regional High School. She is a new reporter at The Cat Chronicles and is excited to show off her writing skills. She loves writing and reading about Athlete Mental Health. A fun fact about her is that she's played soccer since she was 4. Her goal is to play Division 1 soccer and eventually professional soccer. She is inspired by her grandmother, who tells stories about her grandfather. The most essential skill a reporter needs, she said, is their ability to understand multiple points of view. One story she wants to cover this year is Simone Biles and her mental struggles.
Sophia Ng is a sophomore at Pinelands Regional High School, writing as a reporter for the newspaper club. Sophia enjoys writing almost as much as she does reading. She joined this club to bring light to important events and topics happening in school. A fun fact about her is that she can speak two languages, including English and Greek. For her future, she is striving to graduate from college early and travel often. As a journalist, Sophia’s mom inspires her the most because she is hardworking, honest, and independent. Sophia believes the most important skill a reporter needs is the ability to communicate effectively. One story she would love to cover this year is how it felt as a Senior to play all four years on the volleyball team and what traits they needed to succeed.
Jack Nilsen, a Sophomore at Pinelands Regional High School, would like to be a part of the News team with the role of being a reporter. Jack joined the team because he was intrigued by both components of writing and the reporting of news. Any topics of sports are most likely his favorite topics. A fun fact about jack is that he surfs, and his future goals are to complete college with an enjoyable and high-paying career. He is inspired by the idea of getting the word out to those who want to know and believes confidence is the most important skill a reporter needs. Finally, there is not exactly a specific story he wants to cover this year, just whatever interests him most.
Emani Perez is an 11th-grade Pinelands Regional High School student and a reporter for the Pinelands Cat Chronicles. She joined the news team to help support my school and Mrs. Toal and wrote excellent articles for Pinelands Regional High School students and staff to read. Her favorite topics to report on are perfect vacation destinations. A fun fact about her is that she has seven dogs. Her goals include graduating from Pinelands Regional High School and attending LSU University to earn her bachelor's degree in psychology. Ms. Toal inspires her as a journalist because she is an amazing ELA teacher and a very determined person. She believes the most essential skills a reporter needs are determination, excellent grammar skills, and perseverance. A story she would love to cover this year is a vacation to Paris.
Kayla Sanford is a junior at Pinelands Regional High School and one of the reporters of The Cat Chronicles. Academically, Kayla is also in the French Club, the History Club, the student ambassadors, Wild Cats in Action, and a student officer for the Pinelands Class of 2027. She will play basketball and flag football for the school this year. Out of all her family members, she loves music the most. She plays the flute, piano, saxophone, and guitar. She loves murder detective books and TV shows. After high school, she plans to attend NYU for her Bachelor’s in CSI Forensics. After all her hard work comes to fruition, she plans on becoming President of the United States of America.
Myron Sarfo goes to Pinelands Regional High School in the 10th grade, and eventually wants to become a surgeon. As a reporter, he joined the team to analyze and spread awareness. His favorite topic to report on is sports. A fun fact about him is that he can type up to 190+ words per minute. Myron was inspired by his mother, as she always encouraged him and believed in his ability to write. He believes the most important skill a reporter should have is an unbiased mindset, especially when storytelling. One story he’s excited to cover is the performance of Pinelands’ Varsity Boys Soccer team.
Emma Schoen is a 10th-grade student at Pinelands Regional High School, and her role in the newspaper club is as a reporter. Emma joined the newspaper club because she enjoys reading, as well as writing, and wants to report on important events/topics at her school. The topics she is interested in reporting on are school sports accomplishments and hardships, along with the activities other clubs are doing. A fun fact about Emma is that she is on two varsity sports teams, girls' tennis and softball. Her future goals consist of majoring in Clinical Psychology and becoming wealthy enough to travel the world. As a journalist, Emma is inspired most by her grandma, who is an intelligent and hard-working English teacher. She taught Emma how to be a better person, as well as how to become a better writer. One story Emma would love to cover this school year is how the varsity tennis team worked together learning the sport of tennis, as well as the ways of being on Varsity, since it was new to many of them.
Hayden Westcott is in 9th grade at Pinelands and joined as a reporter. He joined the club because he likes writing. His favorite thing to report is movies, any kind. He loves dinosaurs and even dreams of being a paleontologist when he grows up. He has his mom as his inspiration because Hayden would watch his mom do essays for college. He believes the most important skill a writer can have is to be able to read and write.
