CULINARY 101

Culinary 101

Instructor: Cynthia Cromwell

Cynthia has been a high school English teacher for 28 years. Previously, she taught at New England Culinary Institute. Over the years, she has owned a restaurant, catered extensively, and taught cooking classes.

Description: Culinary 101 will discuss the basics of flavor: salty, sweet, sour, bitter, umami, and spicy. Other classes will include basic knife skills, including how to safely sharpen a knife. Participants will prepare meals and make soups from scratch, including bone broth. These meals may be used to stock the freezer for easy weeknight meals. Classes will progress to more developed recipes, including participants’ requests, working from savory to sweet. The classes will be hands-on, with something to taste and something to take home at the end of every class.

Participants should bring their own knives. Participants under 18 are welcome accompanied by an adult.
