It’s a very brave and vulnerable act to submit something you worked hard on - especially when you know there’s a chance you won’t move on. We are very proud of all our students who rose to the challenge!

Kinder

I can glue, fold, and assemble materials to create forms (Winter Mice).

1st Grade

I can design sunflowers using the Impressionist style of layering visible brushstrokes on top of each other.

2nd Grade

I can shape clay into a pot, using the pinch pot method, to be a base for my Kusama inspired mushrooms.

3rd Grade

I can design a nightscape that uses my knowledge of emphasis, shading, foreground, middle ground, and background.

4th Grade

I can design a three story tower using 2 point perspective and referencing real architecture around the world.

5th Grade

I can create a drawing of a succulent, using the stippling technique and analogous colors.

Vincent Van Gogh

Dutch artist known around the world for his paintings such as Starry Night and Sunflowers. A man who tried to find what made him happy instead of doing a joyless job. In 10 years he created over 2,000 pieces - and nearly 900 in the last two years of his life.

Van Gogh had very little success while he was alive - selling only one painting for $20 his entire life - however he is now considered one of the greatest artists of all time.

Copper Thunderbird

"Norval Morrisseau"

Cree Canadian Artist and "Grandfather of contemporary Indigenous art in Canada". Growing up, Thunderbird was shamed for being indigenous, but fighting an illness at 19 brought his culture back into his life with vigor. With thick lines and bold colors, his art depicts Cree spiritual stories and legends.

His goals were to remind us all that humans have a profound connection to nature and the universe.

Yayoi Kusama

The Polka-Dot Princess. Known for polka dots and her infinity mirror rooms! Following her passions from Japan to NYC and making a name for herself in a male-dominated industry, Kusama is now world renown for her art.

The Dallas Museum of Arts currently has her Return to Infinity: Yayoi Kusama infinity room for guests to visit!

Takashi Murakami

Renown Japanese artist who founded the Superflat movement.

What is Superflat? It's blending traditional Japanese art with modern anime, manga, and pop culture.

His most famous artwork are the vibrant smiling flowers.

George Seurat

French Post-Impressionist painter and theorist that is famous for developing Pointillism - a technique of putting dots of colors together (i.e. blue and yellow) and having the viewer's own eyes blend them together to make other colors (green) instead of blending them on the palette first. How crazy cool!
