A Peak Inside of the Curriculum: (Understanding the Terminology)
Standard: a description of what a student should know or be able to do after learning occurs.
Understandings/Learning Goals: a set of goals that describe what a student should know or be able to do (a smaller chunk of a standard)
Essential Questions: big picture questions a student should think about during the unit
Assessment: how to measure learning
Formative Assessment: the way a teacher measures assessment in the classroom throughout the class period (could be teacher observation, questions, small quiz)
Summative Assessment: the measure of learning at the end of a unit
Benchmark Assessment: the measure of learning over time
Alternative Assessment: measuring learning without using a test (project, performance)
Resources: The text, books, videos, materials, websites, audio recordings students will use to learn
Lessons and Activities: the learning experiences students take part in
Modifications: all the possible changes a teacher will make to the learning activities to support the varied learners
