One day our art teacher gave us a homework about the role of math in arts.So my dad took me to an art gallery where we saw some beautiful artworks, including one that was based on a snowflake. It was black and white, but you didn’t need any colors to see how amazing it looked. I felt like I was looking through a microscope and looking at an actual snowflake. It had an enchanting effect on me; I couldn’t stop looking. It had a repetitive and sensational pattern which took me to another universe. My dad saw that I looked like I was hypnotized and told me that the pattern was called a “fractal”.
When we went back home, I started looking up fractals and I was astounded by what I saw. They were some of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen. And with more research I found that they were related to math and they were used in a lot of branches, especially geometry. This made me even more happy because I liked math, no I loved math. And being a huge math nerd, I started digging even deeper and I found something called Sierpinski Triangle. It was presented by a Polish mathematician but before him it was used in several different cathedral’s and it was thought to be one of the oldest fractals. When I saw the pictures from the Santa Marina cathedral, I was astonished. They looked like they were sent from heaven. I went to bed around 4 AM because I didn’t sleep because of my researching.
When I woke up next morning around 1 PM, I started on my project. I already had done my research the previous night, so I got a gigantic piece of paper and started to draw a Sierpinski Triangle. I made a superb Sierpinski Triangle, which went over fifty steps. Then I made slides with the pictures from Santa Marina. It took around four hours but it was worth it, for once in my life I felt like I had good art skills.
Next morning when I went to school, I was really excited because of my project. When it was our art lesson, I was the last person to do a presentation. My time came and I went to the board. I showed them my drawing and made my presentation. People looked at me like how I looked at the first picture of the snowflake. My art teacher loved it so much that she gave me extra time to continue my presentation. Later she put my drawing on the wall. And that’s the story of the only 100 I got for my art class.
