How To Apply
Winter 2024 Applications Are Closed.
Eligibility
The University of Michigan Psi Chi Chapter is a prestigious academic honors society. As such, we accept new members with the required criteria:
Class Standing: At least second-semester sophomore standing. We also encourage transfer students to apply!
Cumulative GPA: A 3.3 GPA or higher. This does NOT include rounding your GPA using significant digits (a 3.30 is acceptable, but a 3.29 is not).
Psychology GPA: Taking into account psychology courses alone, a 3.5 GPA or higher. To calculate Psychology GPA: divide the total number of Michigan Honors points (MSH) of Psychology courses into the total number of Michigan Honors Points (MHP) earned in Psychology courses.
Credit Hours in Psychology: 12 completed credit hours in Psychology. This may include Introduction to Psychology, AP Credits, and transfer credits.
Transfer students are welcome to apply! Please include an official transcript from previous Universities. You should also include courses taken at other Universities as part of your 12 completed credits and your GPA.
We also welcome graduate student participation! If you were a member of a Psi Chi Chapter at your undergraduate institution and are now enrolled in a psychology related graduate program at the University of Michigan, we encourage you to get involved with Psi Chi at UMich - just reach out to umpsichi@gmail.com with proof of your membership!
Submitting Your Transcript
You will need to submit a copy of your OFFICIAL transcript in email format with your application so your GPAs and credits can be verified. If you have taken psychology courses at another institution, you must send a transcript from there as well.
INSTRUCTIONS
In order to have the official transcript EMAILED to us directly from the University via Wolverine Access, select "Electronic PDF" and put the recipient email as umpsichi@gmail.com. We will not accept transcripts via email unless they come directly from Wolverine Access/The University using this process. We recommend using this process, because it sends the transcript within minutes. You can have these sent before turning in your application.
For Graduate Students
We also welcome graduate student participation! If you were a member of a Psi Chi Chapter at your undergraduate institution and are now enrolled in a psychology related graduate program at the University of Michigan, we encourage you to get involved with Psi Chi at UMich - just reach out to umpsichi@gmail.com with proof of your membership!
If you were not a member of a Psi Chi Chapter at your undergraduate institution but still wish to get involved with Psi Chi at UMich, we also encourage you to reach out!
Graduate students must also have completed nine semester hours (or fourteen quarter hours) of graduate courses and shall have a minimum overall cumulative graduate grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in their program. In addition, none of a student’s individual course grades may be below the minimum acceptable standard of the program in which the student is enrolled.
