Directorate of Drugs Control - Punjab

Vision:

Provision of equitable quality health care services is at the top of the current agenda of the Government of Punjab. The ever expanding mandate of drug control in provinces, owing to the legislative and operational dynamics (stemming from 18th Constitutional Amendment) has necessitated its functional and administrative analysis and review. Having an appropriate centralized management infrastructure will prevent many hurdles and difficulties for the implementation of harmonized policies and standards. In this preview, Provincial Drug Control Unit has been established that will encompass all aspects of Drug Control and perform an effective role as lynchpin of Drug Control in the Province.

Functions of the Provincial Drug Control Unit:

Core functions of this unit are as follows;

a. To steer the reform efforts

b. Revive broken functional linkages

c. Ensure coordination amongst all entities of the Unit

d. Close monitoring and supervision of field formation

e. Preparation of draft legislation, and amendment to subordinate legislation (rules and regulations)

f. Engagement of renowned consulting firms capable of developing a comprehensive drug control regime

g. Imbibe lessons from international best practices of drug control and devise implementation methodologies accordingly
