Tej Kumar Shrestha has Ph.D. and D.Sc. degrees. Dr. Shrestha had held many distinguished positions and was associated with fish and wildlife conservation movements. He served as Professor and Head of Central Department of Zoology, Tribhuvan University and he was also Coordinator of Wetland and Heritage Program of IUCN, Nepal. He served as Associate Member of Royal Nepal Academy of Science and Technology and Member of prestigious Tribhuvan University Council. He was conferred title of Chartered Biologist and elected Fellow of Institute of Biology, UK, Fellow of Linnean Society of London, Fellow of Zoological Society of London, Foreign Secretary of Zoological Society of India. He has contributed more than 150 scientific papers and articles on fish and wildlife taxonomy, ecology and behaviour in national and international journals. His popular articles have appeared on radio and TV in Nepal and abroad. His work on Gangetic dolphin was televised in Defenders of Wild series by Yorkshire Television. He serves IUCN Species Survival Commission (SSC) as a member in different specialist groups. He has written more than twenty, widely read, outstanding books and monographs on wildlife and resource management including Wildlife of Nepal (1981), Resource Ecology of the Himalayan waters of Nepal (1990), Ganges River Dolphin (1995), Spiny Babbler an Endemic bird of Nepal (1998). Fish Catching in the Himalayan Waters of Nepal (1995), The Mahseer in the Rivers of Nepal Disrupted by Dams and Ranching Strategies (1997), and Ichthyology of Nepal (2008). He has completed more than 40 research projects including prestigious PSTC grant from U.S. Agency for International Development, Washington D.C. and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
Executive Director
Dr. Sabina Shrestha is a plant ecologist and natural products chemist. She has contributed more than forty scientific papers in national and international journals. She served departments of botany and environmental sciences in Patan Multiple Campus, Tribhuvan University. Her book “National Park and Wildlife Reserves of Nepal (Nepali language)” was published by Curriculum Development Center of Nepal Government as a reference book. She had illustrated for Professor Tej Kumar Shrestha’s books “Birds of Nepal” and “Ichthyology of Nepal”. She has co-authored the book "Himalayan Flowers, Trees and Animals" (2011) and "Wilderness and Diversit of Life in Nepal's Chitwan National Park". She has a doctorate in biotechnology with major in oriental medicinal material engineering from the Kyung Hee University, Republic of Korea. As post-doctoral fellow she served in Kyung Hee University (2011-2013) and Jeju National University (2014-2015). Her works on active compounds Rhus parviflora for neuroprotective and neurodegenerative disease have been granted patent rights. She has received Young Scientist Award of 2013 from Nepal Academy of Science and Technology.
Research Director
Atmaz Kumar Shrestha is a field biologist. He teaches microbiology in graduate level at Amrit Campus, Tribhuvan University. He has accomplished number of field expedition across Nepal. He has developed expertise in underwater photography, micro photography of fish, microbial and planktonic life. He is well-known for noble and evocative photo-images of fish, dolphin and other wildlife behaviour that convey sense getting up close to nature and natural wilderness. His technical ability is expressed in every photograph he has taken. He has fully illustrated books of Professor Tej Kumar Shrestha, including Birds of Nepal and Ichthyology of Nepal. He holds B.Sc degree majoring in Zoology and M.Sc degree in Microbiology from Tribhuvan University. He has contributed some scientific papers in international and national journals. He has co-authored the book "Himalayan Flowers, Trees and Animals" (2011). His major interest is the research on disease and microbiome biology, as well as fishery and wildlife diversity. He has served as in-country consultant for Characterization of Fishes of Nepal for The US Forest Service, International Programs (USFS/IP) in 2015.
