Pollinators are crucial to our food supply and our natural world. More than half of North American wild bees are in decline and 1 in 4 are at risk of extinction. Habitat loss and pesticides are the main causes for pollinator decline.
Protect the life that sustains us at home, work, & community.
- Stop using pesticides, especially systemic neonicotinoids.
- Plant native pesticide-free plants.
- Leave gardens intact until May for hibernating insects.
- Leave some nesting areas, such as brush piles and leaves.
- Tolerate some bee “weeds” like dandelions.
- Accept some plant and insect damage.
- Replace turf with flowers, bee lawns, gardens, and prairie.
- Ask your garden supplier and hardware store to remove systemic insecticides and sell pesticide-free plants.
- Make your workplace, school, and neighborhood pollinator friendly.
- Encourage your city and county to pass a pollinator protection resolution.
- Ask your legislators to support strong pollinator protections.
- Support state incentives to farmers that don’t use pesticides.
- Educate yourself so you can educate others.
- Instill respect for nature in children. Teach them to love pollinators!
- Buy organic pesticide-free food and products.
- Be a volunteer or sponsor with Pollinator Friendly Alliance.
