After getting fully funded (PRAISE THE LORD!), not a lot of progress has been made in preparing for Japan. We have a big checklist of things to get in order such as making a packing list, getting visas, figuring out international banking, what will our phone plan be, etc. Though we have so much to do and not a lot of progress has been made so far, we have not been idle. There has been at least one BIG item taken care of as well as many other necessary to-dos not related to Japan.
We don't have plane tickets yet. We are still waiting for our Certificate of Eligibility to be processed... but we do have an apartment already!
It is a 2-bedroom apartment (I don't know the sq. ft.). It is only a 20 minute walk from CBI, where we will be working and it has a supermarket right behind it. I have no idea how fresh the produce is there but it will definitely be our most convenient option nonetheless.
Christa and I have been dreaming of what the space will look like, how we can be a blessing to our neighbors (whoever they might be), and riding bikes to work together.
This development has been really exciting for us because this place will be our home for an entire year! Getting the apartment has made the reality of going to Japan set in a bit more. However, we have been so busy lately that it still seems so far off, even though it is just under two months away.
I'm not sure if it will even set in when we're boarding the plane... Only time will tell, I suppose!
The school year is ending for me next Friday. So far, I have just been focusing on finishing this year well, being a good steward of the blessings and responsibilities God has given to me in this season. BUT, I am excited to dedicate all of my mental energy to prepare more fully for moving to Japan and to studying Japanese.
As for Christa, she is just about to enter the busy season for Wedding Photography... summertime baby! This is her last weekend without a wedding of some sort before we leave.
