About the triP

The Lord has presented us with an opportunity, a need, and a desire that we are responding to by moving to Nagoya, Japan for a year to work as interns at a Christian organization called Christ Bible Institute (CBI).

The Opportunity

In short, the opportunity is the internship at CBI. However, it is a bit more than that. Both of our jobs allow us a certain degree of flexibility. Even as a high school teacher, I am permitted one year of personal leave which grants us the availability to move to Japan but also have a job lined up when we return. So the Lord has presented us with an opportunity to physically go spread the gospel.

The Need

Last July, Christa and I went to Japan with our church and were introduced to the spiritual needs of Japan. There is a great apathy and despair amongst the Japanese. To placate themselves from the hardships that come with a shame culture, they cope in many unhealthy ways. Even the small Japanese Church struggles to breaks the bonds of their cultural identity, especially with their lack of Christian resources to help them grow in the knowledge and power of the gospel. Our pastor Ric Rodeheaver wrote an insightful article about these exact needs, as well as the hope he sees for Japan.

The Desire

Missions work has long been on our heart. In fact, Christa and I met in the Student Missionary Union at Biola. We have always wondered about and been open to overseas missions. Along with that, the Lord has stoked in me a love of language learning and linguistics, and Christa and I have been prayerfully considering what the He might have us do with this desire. As we heard of the need, especially for the translation of Christian books, God directed and softened our hearts toward the nation of Japan.

We are aiming to leave at the end of July 2019. An exact date will be given when we have it.
