Q: What time does camp start?
A: Campers can be checked in starting at 9:15 am and program starts promptly at 9:30. Any campers that arrive late will need to be walked up the hill to their unit leader.
Q: How do I check my child in?
A: Staff members will have a sign each morning signaling what unit they are with. Campers should greet their staff members to signal they are present and the staff members will direct them where to go. Campers need to be accompanied by an adult all the way to their unit leader on the first day of camp but may be dropped off at the turnaround every day afterward.
Q: What time does camp end?
A: Camp is over at 3pm. Campers will be walked back down to the firegate to be checked out.
Q: How do I check my child out?
A: Campers will walk down to the firegate with their units at 3pm. There, you will find your child's unit as signaled on their sign. You will need to show a form of ID that matches a name on your child's camper release form. Then, you will be able to sign out your camper with the unit leader. All campers MUST be signed out before leaving camp.
Q: What should my child wear to camp?
A: During Day Camp, campers and staff must wear long pants (no capris or leggings), long socks, shirts that cover tummies and shoulders completely, and sturdy fully-enclosed, tie or velcro shoes (no mesh shoes). A sweatshirt or jacket is strongly recommended because the weather in Tilden Park is VERY unpredictable. NO SHORTS OR SANDALS. Long hair must be tied back for safety.
Q: What should my child bring to camp?
A:
A backpack or bag that they can hike with
Lunch & drink (unless told otherwise)
Water bottle (filled at home)
Healthy snack
Mess Kit (or unbreakable plate and cup)
Eating Utensils (fork, knife, spoon)
Dunk Bag (or gallon size ziploc bag) to store dirty mess kit in
Small hand towel
Small notebook and pencil
One skein of yarn (any size or color) for crafts
Q: My camper is cooking tomorrow but doesn't like what is on the menu. What do I do?
A: Your camper should bring their own lunch. If they are not sure if they will like the meal, they can bring a lunch just in case.
Q: What if I need to pick my child up early or they come late to camp?
A: Park and walk through the fire gate and down the path. Turn right at the second path with a sign for "Wildcat View" and walk up the hill towards the big brown building (Shack). Check in with one of the camp administrators there and they will then direct you to your child's unit where you can drop them off or sign them out (same procedure as at the end of camp).
Q: How does the family picnic and evening program work?
A: Out of an abundance of caution, there will be no family dinner or camp overnight this year. There will be a video recording of each unit performing a song of choice that will be shared with families. We encourage everyone to gather together at home for a family dinner of their own, then cozy up to enjoy our digital show.
