The Liachko lab is located at the Veterans Affairs hospital in the fantastic city of Seattle, WA, and affiliated with the University of Washington. We use model systems including mouse primary neurons, cultured human cells and C. elegans, to study amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, and other aging related neurodegenerative disorders.

We are seeking motivated and creative individuals who work well with others as part of a research team. Communication skills, organizational skills, and a willingness to learn new approaches are key. Projects include studying the underlying causes of aging associated protein aggregation in neurodegenerative disease using primary neuron, cell culture, and/or transgenic C. elegans models.

Postdoctoral research fellow:

Candidates should have knowledge of genetics and/or neurobiology, strong problem solving skills, the ability to design and execute controlled experiments, effective communication with internal and external researchers, and an aptitude for scientific writing. Desirable experience and skills include cell culture, microscopy, immunoblotting, mouse and/or C. elegans, microbiology, and molecular cloning.

Requirements: A PhD in the biomedical science and eligibility and willingness to apply for external postdoctoral funding including T32/F32 NIH training grants or other independent funding sources. Self- motivation is essential.
