These are the words of the week that are sent home every Monday with your child. The purpose of sending these words home is to have your child become familiar enough with these words that they become part of their sight word memory. This will help them immensely in the reading and writing processes. This year we are using the 'science of reading' approach to site words. As you will see there are hearts under a section of some of the words. This heart signifies that that part of the word, just has to be memorized. That is, it may not follow the regular rules in regards to letter sounds.
Ways to help your child learn these words:
1. Cut out the words and make them into flash cards.
2. Tape them onto your child's wall or door and have them read the words at bedtime or when they get up in the morning.
3. Play memory. (Turn the cards face down, flip them over one at a time and read the word that has been turned over).
4. Put the words face side up, call out a word and have your child point to it.
5. Put the words around your child's space at a the table and review them before breakfast or supper.
