Feedback is Critical for a High-Quality Externship Experience
Whether it is offering tangible feedback on written product or giving feedback on conduct during a meeting, externs need to hear your thoughts.
A set meeting is a great time to discuss the externs's performance. In addition, acknowledging work product when it is received, sharing the final documents that are filed/submitted, and, when possible, inputting track changes/comments into their documents, can really help them learn and create an improved work product next time.
Also, please let externs know when they've done well on an assignment. It will be motivating to them to know they are on the right path!
Foster Mentorship
In addition to the direction and feedback you give externs regarding their performance on assigned tasks, we ask that you share your experiences with and observations about the greater legal system.
As many of the externs you will supervise will have little or no prior legal experience, what they learn from you will often become the foundation of their understanding of what it means to be a lawyer.
