1.) Work as a TEAM

2.) Be RESPONSIBLE

3.) Be RESPECTFUL

4.) Be KIND and HELPFUL

5.) Always do your BEST

Behavior:

I have high expectations in regards to behavior and academics. I expect students to come in the classroom every day ready to learn.

That being said, I believe positive reinforcement is the most effective way to build a classroom community. In Room 5 we use:

1) Individual:

        • Verbal Praise: A very effective manner in which to gain respect from my students is to give them verbal praise in both the presence of their peers and individually.

        • Class Dojo Points: Each student has their own avatar and can get points throughout the day for being respectful, helping and on task. Every two weeks students can use their points to “buy” rewards (a pencil, sitting on the teacher’s chair, Homework Pass).

          • The student with the most Dojo points every day will be the next days “VIP.” The VIP gets special privileges and fancy pens and pencils to use!

2.) Group:

        • Table Points: To promote positive TEAM behavior. The team that is ready first will get a point. The team with the most points at recess/lunch will get to leave first.

3.) Whole Class:

        • Marble Jar: To promote positive whole-class behavior. Whenever the whole class is on task, I will put a marble in our jar. When the jar is filled, the children will get a reward (example: extra recess time, popcorn party, etc.).

Consequences:

I believe that negative actions = consequences, “no excuses.” Every opportunity to solve a problem will be made in the classroom via redirection, a warning, and a teacher/student discussion.

The consequences in Room 5 are:

1.) Warning: I will have a short independent talk with the child discussing the behavior and how it affects their learning and the rest of the class.

2.) Fix-it-Ticket: I will have the student fill out a Reflection Form after their action. This is an opportunity to have them reflect on their decision and what the can do next time. This goes home and NEEDS to be signed and looked at. Please discuss with your child their actions.

3.) Consequence (example: privilege loss to go outside on Friday afternoons or loss of recess)
