Stratospheric Ozone Depletion:
I studied The Stratospheric Ozone Depletion and my group consisted of Rose Werner, Riely DuPont, Norah Carlson. We learned about the Stratospheric Ozone and it's history, it's chemical make up, where it is located, the causes and effects on human life as well as the environment, the regulations that have been put into place and the future of the Stratospheric Ozone. See the slide show above for more information.Â
Industrial Smog Group: (Whitney, Conrad, Mark)
I really liked their presentation because it was very aesthetic as well as very informative. They explained what industrial smog was and how it is formed. It is formed by a mixture of fossil fuel combustion. It contains sulfur dioxide and particular matter. This causes respiratory effects as well as cancer and teratogens, which cause young children to be born with or develope physical dissabilityes or mutations of their genes. One example of a industrial smog disaster was the "Pea Souper" in London in 1952. There was a anti-cyclone above the city which caused all of the smog that was a biproduct of everyone burning coal to heat their houses and buildings, to stay ground level creating thermal inversion. There were 12,000 deaths from this disaster. Some measures that have helped this problem are the National Ambient Air Quality Standards, Green bills, Clean Air Act, renuable energy and giving people more education about these issues and thier repercussions. This group had a great video that was informative visually and that was a great connection to a show that most people our age have seen, The Crown. It was a clip of when the Disaster happened in London in 1952. One thing I think they could improve of to make this presentation be better would be to visually add the names of the compounds that create Industrial Smog. This would help make it easier for the listeners and note takers to follow along and get the information down in a simpler way. Over all, they had a great presentation and it was very informative.
