With dedication running high across all teams, excitement is building for what promises to be a thrilling and successful season ahead. As the great Michael Jordan once said, “Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen.” At St Dominic’s Priory, our athletes are definitely making it happen!

Grade 8-12 Interhouse Gala
On the 17th January, our Grade 8-12s had their annual Interhouse Gala. The Matrics went over and above with the themes for their houses and made sure that all the teams came togetherether with loud cheers and great spirit! Rosary claimed the victory of the spirit cup and the final scores led to Marcelli winning the gala with a whopping 1178 points in total. At the end, the Matrics all followed through with a Priory tradition and jumpied into the school's swimming pool.
Kendra Begley and Rhys Mills both set new school records and personal bests.
Grade 8 Retreat
The Grade 8 Camp, accompanied by Mr February, Mr Hambury, Ms Roos and Fr Grant, was an exciting experience for all those who went. After speaking to some of the Grade 8s, and hearing their stories, which were filled with many memorable moments, you could tell the camp helped them feel more comfortable at Priory.
After splitting up into 8 groups, the students experienced some outdoor activities such as zip-lining and canoeing, as well as some educational activities and masses, led by Fr Grant in the hall. The zip-lining and refreshing swim in the river was a big hit. They also had fun playing in mud puddles in the rain, even though it got messy. “It was so much fun!” a student shared.
For many of the Grade 8s, the camp also helped them make new friends. One student said, “It helped me feel more at home at Priory. I made new friends and learned how to work together with my classmates.” The camp gave them the chance to bond with each other, whether it was through teamwork in activities or just relaxing together. “We got to know each other a lot more,” another camper added.
But it wasn’t all easy. The weather made some activities challenging. Even the heat became a great difficulty when the students were pioneering their slingshots, bridges and team flags, but the students handled it well through teamwork. “We just supported each other and kept going,” one student explained. Even though it was tough, the students learned how to stick together and push through the challenging activities.
The camp also gave students a chance to reflect on their friendships. The theme of the camp focused on good and bad friendships, and some students shared how they learned to handle difficult situations. “I learned that if someone is being a bad friend, it’s better to walk away,” one student said. It was clear the camp wasn’t just about having fun — it also taught students important lessons about friendships and relationships.
Looking back, the Grade 8’s said they really enjoyed the camp and would definitely recommend it to next year’s Grade 8’s. “It’s a great chance to make memories with your friends,” another learner said. On arrival back to Priory, although tired, the students gained lifelong memories with all their new and old friends!
