Dear Students,
Welcome to Principia’s Music program! We are happy to welcome you to our musical family.
If you love the thoughtful breadth of a liberal arts college and want a carefully scaffolded music program, then you are in good company! This rare and wonderful combination allows you to grow spiritually, learn deeply and widely, and graduate with the skills and associations to pursue your individual next steps—whether that be graduate education or direct entrance into the professional workforce.
Our notable alumni, including Grammy-awarding winning Brad Wells of Room Full of Teeth, graduated prepared and now perform worldwide in amazing venues, both solo and with high caliber ensembles. Alumni have also gone on to pursue prosperous independent careers in music as performers, singers, songwriters, and producers of all different musical genres and styles. The courses in our music program support the development of valuable transferable skills, where our alums have applied them to build successful careers in law, business, banking, computer science, and other fields of endeavor.
In the Music Department, you can expect to receive high-quality courses, private lessons, ensemble experiences, technical training, and field and abroad programs based on your own level of performance and your academic goals. Through our three different major tracks (Music, Music Studies, Producer/Performer), there is something for everyone! To be a successful music student at Principia requires daily dedication to your craft and your studies, timely communication with your faculty, and a willingness to try new things.
We hope you will join us outside of classes for our Concert and Lecture Series, Music at Davis, St. Louis Symphony & Chicago Lyric Opera field trips, and other opportunities and events throughout the year.
You can follow us on Facebook (Principia College Music Department), Instagram (@principiacollegemusic), or explore this website for updates on activities and the semester rehearsal and concert schedule.
We welcome you wherever you are in your musical and academic journey. Together we can make music that inspires, serves, and leads our community!
See you in Davis and McVay!
With joy,
Dr. Rose Whitmore
