Annual Holiday Tournament
By: Noah Geiger
The varsity Boys Basketball team competed in the 96th annual Princeville holiday tournament. The tournament has been running for 96 years making it the longest-running tournament in Illinois. Our boys played against Ridgewood in the first round winning that game with a score of 61-32. They moved to the second round to compete against Peoria Heights where they dominated that game winning 70-29. In the championship, we took on the Brimfield Indians who beat us in the season's first game. We brought it back to them when we won with a final of 54-47. The Champions of the 96th Holiday tournament are our very own Princeville Princes.
The 13th annual Lee Westerman Girls Holiday tournament occurred simultaneously with the boys. Our Girls defeated BPC in the first round with an impressive final of 64-15. In the second round, we took on the Elmwood Trojans also winning that game with a score of 44-38. With that win, long-time girls Coach John Gross reached an impressive milestone of 900 career wins. He has coached at 3 different schools: Richwoods, Limestone, and Princeville. During his time at Richwoods, he was very successful winning two state titles. Moving onto the Championship game the girls took on Tremont where they played tough but couldn’t take them down. That game ended with a final score of 63-40 making the Tremont Turks Champions of the 13th annual Lee Westerman Holiday Tournament.
