Protecting Our Kids
in the Digital World
Today’s youth have integrated the use of digital devices and social media into their daily lives. While there are positive opportunities with these changes in technology, there are also significant challenges for our youth, parents, and schools. We must work together as a community to face these challenges head on and keep our youth safe in an ever changing digital environment.
On Wednesday, May 21st at 2:20pm Karilyn Orr, an Internet Safety and Prevention Specialist from the Illinois Attorney General’s Office (ICAC Task Force) will present to our 5th-8th grade students on topics intended to provide valuable information on how to stay safe and avoid risks online. These topics will be delivered in an age appropriate manner and presented differently than our evening presentation for high school students and the parents of all district students on the same date. This is a great opportunity for our students to become aware of the online risks out there and how to avoid them. If you DO NOT want your child to attend this presentation, please use this link to opt them out of attending.
The evening presentation will be from 6:30 to 7:30 pm on Wednesday, May 21st for community members, all district parents, and 9th-12th grade students. This event will be held in the high school gymnasium. Please see the flyer that includes an RSVP QR Code for all parents planning to attend the evening presentation. Babysitting will be provided in the junior high gym by two faculty members and8th grade student volunteers. Please RSVP for this essential presentation by Wednesday, May 14th. You will be able to indicate if you need childcare using the same RSVP QR Code or this RSVP link.
