Penelope Georges
Associate Director of the Council on Science and Technology and course instructor on a mission to ignite a passion for science in all! This journey has combined two things that excite me: the fascinating intersection of bioengineering and art with the rich medical history of London. In my free time, you’ll find me crafting, staying active, and cherishing time with my family and dog, Beau.

I am a prospective Electrical and Computer Engineering major from New York City! I am an avid gamer, sports fanatic, jellycat lover, and I am also really into fashion! Our trip to the United Kingdom opened my eyes to an entirely new world, not just through the lens of bioart, but in a cultural setting as well. I had never been to Europe before, so being able to both freely explore as well as learn on this trip was extremely immersive and insightful.
I am a prospective Computer Science major from New Jersey! I love powerlifting and breakdancing, and I do art in my free time. FRS allowed me to bridge the intersection between my academic interests in STEM and my creative side, allowing me to create bioart while learning about the living systems that go into this art form.

I am a prospective neuroscience major from Atlanta, Georgia! As a pre-med student, I have always been interested in learning about the history of medicine, but combining it with biotechnology and art has been a new avenue. Learning about the discovery of penicillin, the story of Florence Nightingale, and seeing bioart in new and interesting ways has made this trip to London forever memorable, especially as it was my first time in Europe. I hope to study abroad here over the summer and continue learning more about biotech and art.

I'm a prosepctive English major from Vermont, interested in creative writing and film. This class allowed me to explore topics in STEM I don't usually engage with through a lens of art and ethics that is fascinating to me. I loved traveling to the UK, and it reaffirmed my interest in studying abroad! When I'm not in this class I also love reading, theater, and being outside.

Hi! Im a prospective ORFE major from Detroit, MI. I love photography (check out the student gallery!) and this trip was super exciting for me to shoot. I love my friends, family, going on walks, and traveling. On this trip, I got to learn about fascinating pieces of Bio Art and the medical history of London. I gained ideas and inspiration for my final project and sightseeing in England was breathtaking. Although out of my future career field, this has been my favorite course on my schedule and I highly recommend full advantage of it.

I'm a prospective Molecular Biology or Chemistry major from Portland, Oregon! As someone interested in medicine and research, this class has opened my eyes to the subcategories of both subjects and led me to explore the opportunities for the intersection of art and science. This was my first time in Europe, and will hopefully not be my last given this opportunity to explore the arts and sciences with Dr. Georges.

Hi. I am a prospective SPIA major from Tulsa, Oklahoma, but originally from Beijing, China. I thoroughly enjoyed the myriad of museums we visited throughout the trip, for they have made me think a lot about how museums have the power to shape these narratives. I loved London so much that I want to do a semester abroad here. In my spare time, I enjoy playing piano, writing novels, and reading.
