Body Builders explores the transformative potential of bioengineering, from repairing and enhancing human anatomy to altering our genetic code. By using art as a catalyst for learning bioengineering topics - we aim to bridge the gap between complex scientific concepts and real-world applications. The course includes hands-on learning experiences alongside discussions on ethical questions, hopefully providing you with a deeper understanding of bioengineering's impact on society. Designed for both science majors and non-majors, the course aims to make bioengineering accessible and relevant to your life and encourage you to engage with the field in your daily lives.
Over fall break 2024, the seminar traveled to the UK for an exploration of bioart and the modern history of health care. Brighton and London were the perfect locations to examine into the intersection of biology, art, and ethics. We visited institutions like the Florence Nightingale Museum, Wellcome Collection, and Alexander Fleming's Laboratory to hear the stories behind medical advancements. We also worked with bioartist Anna Dumitriu, who led us through tours and a science and art workshop in Brighton.
