Implementation:
At The Prince of Wales School, we are committed to providing a nurturing and stimulating environment where children can flourish and thrive. Our implementation strategy is grounded in the principles of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, emphasising play-based learning, exploration, and child-centred approaches.
Our curriculum integrates hands-on learning that encourages exploration, investigation, and problem-solving. Outdoor and indoor provision enriches children's development through sensory experiences and physical engagement. The school's extensive grounds allows children to experience a range of unique experiences such as visiting the pond and bird hides, the inclusive play trail, the forest school area and round house, the treehouse, our hydrotherapy pool, sensory room and soft play area.
At the Prince of Wales School we recognise the uniqueness of each child, we tailor our approach to their interests, strengths, and needs. A broad and balanced curriculum covers all areas of learning and development in our own unique way.
We actively engage with our community, inviting families to participate in events and celebrations. Collaborative partnerships with parents and carers ensure continuity between home and school, enhancing children's experiences and transitions. Our range of Pre-School trips and visitors enhances the unique learning opportunities we have. These include trips to Weymouth beach, Thorncombe woods, Dorchester library, Maiden Castle Farm and weekly visits to the local care home amongst a wide range of other trips. Engagement with families is our highest priority and we nurture this at Pre-School by weekly stay and play sessions (including Saturdays), family Christmas breakfast, Grandparents elevensies and regular information sessions.
In Reception we build on the specific areas of learning with a strong focus on synthetic phonics and early reading by using Read Write Inc to deliver daily phonics teaching. Read Write Inc supports children’s letter formation skills to enable them to become independent writers.
Literacy forms the cornerstone of our curriculum throughout the year we continue to build on the love of storytelling developed in Preschool and the use of high quality texts enables children to immerse themselves in our imaginative, creative and highly engaging Literacy curriculum, our passionate approach for early writing shines through and all pupils are encouraged to become strong confident and enthusiastic writers.
Children in Reception are immersed in a rich culture of Early Mathematics where all children develop a love and strong understanding of number through the delivery of our Mastering Number approach.
Our holistic approach to Understanding the World enables learners to explore, ask questions, discover their environment and the world around them. The variety of trips and experiences on offer further enhances children’s opportunities to explore the world they live in. Our use of enhanced continuous provision enables all children to develop their understanding and critical thinking through well planned and resourced play and learning opportunities.
Our committed approach to a broad and balanced curriculum is underpinned by our expert knowledge in early childhood development and play based learning opportunities. (ABC Triangle)
