Planting
As part of the Eco-Committee's project with ASDA, Y4W have decided to help sew some seeds in our classroom before the plants can be taken onto our school allotment to grow.
We talked about the importance of pollinators and why the seeds needed to be sewn indoors before they could be taken outside due to the weather.
We are attempting to grow, bell peppers, chilli peppers, oregano and sunflowers. We will keep you updated with the progress of our seedlings!
Reading
We really enjoyed exploring the poem 'Jabberwocky' by Lewis Carrol. We explored the portmanteau of the poem, where two words are put together to make a nonsense word (for example furious and fuming mixed together would be frumious). We then created a story board of the poem giving meaning to some of the portmanteau words and finally created a performance of the poem at the end of the week using our bodies to create shape as well as using our facial expressions and changing our voice and different parts of the performance.
At the end of February, children from both Year 4 classes visited Armley Leisure centre to take on 5 other school from across the city in the first round of the Skipping Schools Skipping Festival.
The children showed great teamwork, cooperation and resilience during the event and won a huge number of medals. The performed fantastically well and won the event in dramatic style! We are really looking forward to the City of Leeds finals day in June!
Well done Super Skippers!
Drax Power
Station Visit
On the second day of the new term, we went to visit Drax power station to kick start our new topic on electricity. As part of the visit, we learned how trees from Canada and the USA are transformed into the electrical energy we use in our homes and took a tour of the power station itself. It was a fascinating day out that has inspired to know more about electricity this half term!
