Statement from the Delaware Democrats PRIDE Caucus on the Anti-Trans Provisions in the Continuing Resolution
The current Continuing Resolution being proposed by the Republicans has unacceptable anti-transgender provisions that would negatively affect healthcare for trans people, possibly jeopardizing access to Medicare and Medicaid. These would be devastating for the transgender community. While we understand that shutdowns are to be avoided, this should not happen at the expense of a marginalized community. Statement on upcoming GOP Fundraiser
Delaware’s GOP party is planning a fundraiser in January. They have invited, as a guest of honor, a person whose claim to fame is that she has led an attack campaign in DC on Congresswoman-Elect Sarah McBride. These attacks are not related to any policy issues that she represents, but to her mere existence.
As a state Senator, Sarah McBride worked across the aisle on many bipartisan initiatives, including the Protect Medicaid Act of 2024 and the Healthy Delaware Families Act, Delaware’s Paid Family Medical Leave statute. While there have been legitimate policy issues upon which they disagree, McBride and elected Delaware Republicans had a respectful and productive relationship on the issues that matter to Delawareans.
But outside of Legislative Hall, the Delaware GOP is more interested in headlines than action. The PRIDE Caucus is disappointed that the Republican State Party has chosen to jump on the attention bandwagon—not only showing their disrespect to Congresswoman-Elect McBride, but also to the 287,830 Delawarean voters who sent her to D.C. to represent our state because we have seen first hand the hard work and dedication she has for our state. We chose her because we know she will work to help all Delawareans, no matter their ideologies or policies.
Rather than participating in political trolling, perhaps in the future Delaware Republicans will find their time better served by focusing on the issues that matter to the people of Delaware.

Statement on the Passage of National Defense Authorization Act into Law
Over the past couple of weeks, the House and the Senate passed, and President Biden has signed into law, the National Defense Authorization Act, a bill intended to fund national protection. Instead, it includes harm: a ban on TriCare covering gender-affirming care for the children of our troops.
Eighty-one Democrats in the House and 37 Democrats in the Senate voted to pass the NDAA with this restriction.
Notably, the PRIDE Caucus appreciates that Delaware’s Senator-Elect Lisa Blunt Rochester was amongst the Democrats that stood up and voted against this harmful bill being passed.
While we recognize the National Defense Authorization Act’s importance for national security, including provisions that harm our troops' families will have a long-term effect on our ability to recruit and maintain the best-armed services worldwide.
The vote to authorize this bill at the expense of transgender youth and their families has been noted, and the PRIDE Caucus will not forget going forward.
Silence is not an option. The LGBTQIA+ community needs the support of Democrats more than ever, and the Delaware Democratic Party PRIDE Caucus will continue to advocate for equality and demand accountability from those entrusted with representing our values.
We call on the Democrats in office at both the State and Federal levels to reaffirm their commitment to equality, and to fight for the rights of all Americans going forward.
