In the last decade there has been a rapid transformation of the education system. These changes pose new challenges as we try to adapt to the demands of increasing globalization, recessionary conditions in the economy, and the introduction of technologies like Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. Universities must come out of their traditional safety zone, identify out of the box solutions, and evolve to successfully navigate the uncertain waters. One way to do this is through establishing global networks, by increasing interactions and collaborations with other institutes and Universities that will expose our students to new ideas and cutting edge courses. This will create a synergy that will improve programme outcomes, open avenues for higher studies to students, lead to better placements — all of which will improve the intake of students and improve the quality of students. The MoU with Virginia Tech University is one important step in this direction.
The MoU will benefit students enrolled in PG first year at Presidency University. However, students from other Colleges can also apply to Presidency University through the PUMDET advertised in January every year, enroll in the Masters in Applied Economics programmes in Presidency University and apply to Virginia Tech University next year.
The New Education Policy (NEP) has introduced a four year Masters programme in 2023. Once the students of this batch approach graduation, the MoU will be revised to suit the educational trajectory of these batches. We are currently evaluating and carrying on discussion on how best to tailor the MoU to fit with with the NEP.
