In April 2024, we learned of an application to build a 150-unit subdivision on Morrow Mill Road and Gold Mine Loop in southwest Orange County. We joined numerous neighbors in organizing opposition to the changes to county policy and zoning ordinances that the developer is proposing.
A group of concerned neighbors put together this website compiling information on the proposed development and its potential harms.
The neighbors did an incredible job preparing for the second Planning Board meeting on the application, and we secured a unanimous vote to not recommendation the proposed amendments to the Board of County Commissioners. In February 2025, residents of the Morrow Mill area showed up even stronger for the BOCC hearing on this proposal. The public comment period was truly inspiring.
The hearing will continue on March 6th, at which we hope the Commissioners will vote to protect this beautiful rural community of ours.
The public can continue to submit comment via email (ocbocc@orangecountync.gov) and we encourage you to do so. Please share with any Orange County residents who may not know about this proposal or about the avenues available for sharing their thoughts. The Planning Board is responsible for guiding responsible, well-considered development in our county, and we hope the BOCC takes their recommendation, as well as the concerns of their constituents, seriously.
