Prescott Chorale Opens 2026–27 Season with Haydn's Powerful Lord Nelson Mass

Prescott, AZ – The Prescott Chorale will launch its 2026-2027 concert season with an unforgettable evening of dramatic choral music when it presents A Mass for Troubled Times on Saturday, September 26.

The opening concert features Joseph Haydn’s monumental Lord Nelson Mass (Missa in Angustiis), one of the composer’s most celebrated sacred masterworks. Written in 1798 during a period of political uncertainty and war across Europe, the work has become a timeless expression of hope, resilience, and triumph in the face of adversity. Its original title, Missa in Angustiis, translated as Mass for Troubled Times, continues to resonate with audiences more than two centuries after it was composed.

Performing with Haydn’s original orchestration, the Prescott Chorale will be joined by orchestra and four accomplished vocal soloists to bring this extraordinary masterpiece to life. From its soaring choral passages to its intimate moments of reflection, the work offers listeners an emotionally compelling musical journey that remains as relevant today as it was at its premiere.

This concert marks the beginning of a new artistic chapter and an exciting season for the Prescott Chorale which welcomes Danya Tiller as its new Artistic Director. Tiller brings more than 25 years of experience as a conductor, educator, and performer, and is known for creating meaningful musical experiences that inspire both singers and audiences. 

Under her artistic leadership, the nonprofit community chorus looks forward to continuing its tradition of enriching the cultural life of central Arizona through exceptional choral performances. For a decade, the Prescott Chorale has brought singers and audiences together through performances ranging from beloved classics to contemporary masterworks, continuing its mission to inspire audiences through the joyful performance of choral masterpieces.
