Prescott Unified School District is dedicated to developing and providing support to students, so all students are included and able to reach their maximum potential. Under a new policy passed by the Arizona legislature in 2020, a fund was created to provide uninsured and underinsured children with access to behavioral health services when they are referred through an educational institution. These are referred to as “school-based referrals.” Under the new policy, known as "Jake's Law," school districts and charter schools are required to pass their own policies that outline the law as it relates to school-based referrals. These policies must include:
An opt in process for parents to refer their students (these are site based and in site school newsletters)
An optional survey for parents whose children utilized the school-based referrals : https://forms.gle/oWFTwXGU1iqT73AV8
A list of service providers published on the district website : https://sites.google.com/prescottschools.com/pusd-social-emotional-services/community-resources?authuser=0
An annual report to the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS)
ARS 36-3436.01 is named in honor of Jake Machovsky, an Arizona teen who lost his life to suicide in 2016 after battling mental health issues.
