In order to ensure equity, connection and growth in our youngest learners and their families, we will begin the year with physically distant home visits. We know that young children thrive when the adults in their lives are working as a team so we will meet them and their families on their home ground to impart a sense of safety and unity. During these outdoor visits, we will be dropping off a box of school supplies to our virtual learners that will be used at home during virtual learning. These will be the same supplies the in-person students will have to work through projects and hands on activities. We will also be sharing a book about PCS Pre-K that highlights all of the important things about our school which will include pictures and descriptions of the classrooms, the nurse, the support staff, the playground, etc. There will be a video that introduces all of the teachers, classrooms, and peers. We have learned from Spring online learning that these are important things for four year olds and they will re-watch these over and over as they make sense of this strange new situation. Each child and teacher will have a lanyard that has a picture of themselves without a mask on so the students can hold in their minds the people under the masks.
We are currently planning out project based units that both the in-person and virtual students will all participate in together. Again, ensuring the sense of community and connection between the two so the return to in-person learning for all is more like a family reunion. Both groups of students will follow the same daily schedule with 2 teachers assigned to each group of children knowing that each child will need a lot of one-on-one support during this time.
This is the general schedule and will remain in this site as a resource for you to refer back to. Your teachers will be communicating weekly with you on your detailed schedule.
*please note synchronous learning refers to live lessons and asynchronous learning refers online learning that is not live
In order for families and students to effectively prepare, on Friday (or the last day of the week), teachers will post the schedule of synchronous meetings in Google Classroom. This includes any required or optional whole-group, small-group, or individual instructional meetings.
Additional optional Synchronous group gatherings may be added as needed. (ie evening story times)
Students may schedule additional time with their teacher outside of the allotted course time as needed.
All synchronous learning will be recorded and made available to students who may have missed class or would like to review the lesson.
