Digital Resources & Integrating them into your classroom
The amount of resources that exist to facilitate student learning are endless. However, you need to be sure of what you need them for: Practice, Assessment, or Differentiation.
Powerpoint (Google Slides) Resources really make taking notes more interactive. I really enjoy uploading a Google Slideshow for Interactive Notes and having each student have it open in from of them on their own Chromebook. When I call on students, they can fill in the answers or explanations on their technology and it will show up on everyone's. It is a great way to keep the students involved with the lesson and provides good feedback as you are teaching. This will support student learning in the practice setting.
When it comes to assessing student learning, I prefer quick and short checks of understanding before moving on. For this, I highly recommend Edulastic. You can create your own assessments or choose pre-made ones. It grades the assignment for you and shows the average percentage as a class. After a lesson is taught and the students have engaged in independent practice, I assign an assessment through Edulastic. This is beneficial to student learning by assessing their knowledge. This will support student learning in the assessment setting.
In all classroom, not all students learn at the same pace or the same way. I prefer to utilize technology resources that can differentiate student learning such as Prodigy. Prodigy is an interactive game that has the students perform problems on the content and they advance as it measures their mastery of the content. This provides a way for students to spend more time on certain lessons while other students can move on to more challenging questions. Prodigy will support student learning in a setting where learning needs to be differentiated. Prodigy is a great incentive for the students as well. I usually give Prodigy opportunities if the students class averages are over a certain amount or they receive very high scores on a test. Games are a great way to give the students motivation, but this particular resource keeps them working the material.
