Electives (PBL - Inquiry Based)
This project is meant for you to explore an interest you have in your life, or something you want to learn more about. Your idea talk can be about ANYTHING!
Step 1: Choose a topic!
If you already have an idea in mind, find a video about that topic to start your research. Check out these resources for places to find good sources for your video.
Check out this link to explore different topics you might be interested in. Once you find one, watch a video to get some background information on your topic.
Step 2: Research
After watching a video on Learn 360 about your topic, complete a "know and need to know chart" like the one below. Try to identify at least 3 big questions you want to answer about your topic.
Find 2 additional sources to help gather information on your topic. You can use a Google search, or check out these resources to aid your research.
As you explore these sources, complete a learning log to document your research.
Step 3: Organize your research
There are many ways to present information. Some are better suited for certain topics than others. Decide which of the following outlines will be the best way to present your topic.
Outline
Use
Storytelling is best used when you are explaining something that happened. This is useful for presenting on historical events or explaining how something came to be.
Introduction, Body, Conclusion structure is best used when you are making an argument (thesis) and backing it up with evidence. This is useful for presenting when you have an opinion on something and seek to persuade your audience.
Explaining steps in a process works for presentations when you are teaching someone how to do something or explaining how something, like a machine, biological process, or a government procedure, works.
When you have a problem or issue that you are proposing a solution or idea for, use this structure to explain three possible solutions or ideas, and then present an argument for why your solution or idea is the best one.
Now, as a new expert in the area that you researched, you will plan and record an idea talk about your topic!
What is an idea talk?
An idea talk is a short, concise presentation about a focused idea using a structured format. Idea talks can be used to share a story, convey information, or make an argument. Read through this Illustrated TEDx Speaker Guide for an overview of the process of planning and executing a good idea talk!
