All PPS Middle Schools will institute an advisory period that will emphasize Transformative Social Emotional Learning.
This scope & sequence contains WDIFTC lessons and activities to help Middle School students enhance their social, emotional, and psychological growth; To foster a positive and inclusive school environment by creating an atmosphere of trust, support, and acceptance among students and staff; To help students foster life-long skills that will enable them to become responsible and respectful members of the school community.
Lessons range from 30 - 120 minutes in length, but can be easily broken up across class periods and finished across a few days based on the following components:
Cypher: Opening 10-minute ritual to set the tone for the lesson
Icebreaker: Activity to introduce lesson and engage students
Lesson: Average lesson is 90 minutes. Lessons are typically divided in two parts: Part One is content exploration, and Part Two focuses on how the content impacts the learner personally.
Debrief / Extension: Optional activities or questions to extend the conversation around the topic of the lesson.
