STAFF TRAINING
STAFF TRAINING
Most students with mobility needs will be supported by additional school staff. The school staff may be asked to perform activities foreign to them. In order to ensure the safety of students and staff during new activities, staff will require specialized training. It is important to note that staff should not perform new activities until they have been trained by the needed specialist, and have been able to return-demonstrate those skills.
Your school-based physical therapist (PT) can provide staff training for all (but not limited to) the following situations:
General transfer techniques and proper body mechanics
Student transfers with/out additional adult support
Student transfers using mechanical lifts
Supporting students during hallway mobilization, stair use, and mobility devices use
Mobility and positioning equipment set-up and use
Monitoring of students during equipment use
Application and removal of braces
Supporting students in restrooms during personal hygiene care
Supporting students during recess and playground activities
Supporting students during emergency building evacuations
Supporting students during school transportation
Supporting student during field-trip activities
Please reach out to your assigned school-based physical therapist regarding any of the above-mentioned staff training, as well as trainings not mentioned, and the physical therapist may be able to direct you to the appropriate professional.
School staff may also complete the
PHYSICAL THERAPY STAFF TRAINING REQUEST FORM
in order to request additional training from the school-based physical therapists.
