Hello Peninsula Families! May 13th, 2020
I wanted to let you know that we are offering some additional music opportunities using Google Meet. I have been meeting with students for 2 hours a week in our Peninsula Band Meet. This is for those students who joined band this year, but anyone who would like to join a Band Meet is welcome. Students get a few minutes to see their friends, and maybe learn a little about how we can continue learning new musical skills and ideas.

In addition, we are offering a Recorder Time Meet on Wednesdays@ 2PM. Students get some one on one time, we learn a little about some music resources online and get a chance to practice our Recorder skills together. This is a fun hangout!

Last but not least, some students have been asking for individual help. I have been offering 30 minute lessons by Google Meet for a one to one learning opportunity. If you know a student who wants help with just about any musical instrument, send me a note and we will set up a time that works!
Be well, and “see” you in music class!

I have been posting assignments for music on Wednesdays. Next Wednesday, the 29th will be our third week of classes. The assignments are posted in the “Music Class” banner in the students homeroom on Google Classroom and also on Seesaw. These are ideas and resources that our Music Teachers from across the district put together in the first weeks of the closure. They are intended to suggest some musical activities at home, and maybe inspire a little listening and exploration. I have received some excellent videos from students who wanted to share their work, and I would love to say hello, answer questions or talk about how music helps you through the day.
I am also happy to make arrangements for one-to-one lessons for anyone who needs help with and instrument. Please just let me know via email.
As we have discovered, life is indeed a work in progress! My website has a lot of materials including Sing Along tracks, and sheet music and Play Along tracks for all of our Recorder stars!
Next week I look forward to a couple of Virtual “rehearsals” with our band students! We had a trial run Thursday, and it was great to talk about music and work on our instruments together. We had some trouble getting people to our Google Meet, but I am working on that. I will start using REMIND texts with Google Calendar and Email to try to get the information to all our members.
Make some time to enjoy some music, alone or with family. Call someone and sing a song with them on the phone! As drummer Art Blakey would say, “music washes away the dust of everyday life. “
