Dear Families,
Happy Thanksgiving!
We had a fun walking field trip this week to Kenton Library. We will aim to go every 3 weeks so students can get in the habit of returning their books and putting new books on hold. They have a library "card" based on their PPS student identification number and birthday. This is often easier than trying to manage a physical card, which tend to get lost or forgotten. Kids can always just bring their books back to school for me to return, if they miss the scheduled trip.
I look forward to seeing you this week for conferences (unless we prearranged another time). The kids are prepared to have a student-led conference, so please bring your child! I sent home a conference reminder slip with the kids on Friday, but here's the schedule for fall conferences if you need to confirm your time. Please text or email if you need to cancel or change.
Keep in mind that the window to lottery for focus option schools like DaVinci or Winterhaven will close December 12. You can find more information at the link below.
Oregon Battle of the Books participation slip is due by December 9.
Thanks for entrusting your child to me,
Trevor

Snack at School
Thanks to your generosity, we are well provisioned with snacks for the time being! I will let you know when we start to run low. Thank you!
This Week's Spotlight Student:
In an effort to build community and learn more about each other, each week one student will be randomly selected to be our "Spotlight Student."
The spotlight student will bring home and fill out a special worksheet about themselves. This student is also welcome to bring in 2 favorite items from home that represent their identity/culture (please avoid technology or other expensive objects).
At Morning Circle on Wednesday, our Spotlight Student will:
Share their worksheet
Share their special items and tell why they are meaningful
Be interviewed by their classmates
Be complimented by their classmates

The Age of Discovery, also known as the Age of Exploration, was a period from the 15th to 17th centuries where European mariners explored the world by sea, driven by desires for wealth, trade routes, and new lands. This era, marked by explorers like Christopher Columbus and Vasco da Gama, led to the discovery of the Americas, the establishment of global trade networks, the expansion of empires, and a new understanding of world geography, though from the perspective of non-Europeans, it was an era of invasion and colonization.
