Ockley-Green Open House
Save the Date: March 9th
As we approach the transition to middle school, we want to ensure that our 5th grade students and their families are well-prepared for this exciting new chapter. Ockley Green Middle School is hosting an Open House at the middle school on Wednesday, March 9th from 6:00-7:30 pm. This event is a wonderful opportunity for you and your child to become familiar with the middle school environment, meet with teachers and staff, and get a sense of what to expect in 6th grade.
Please note that this is the only currently scheduled event for incoming 6th grade parents to visit the middle school, so we encourage you to make every effort to attend.
Transition Timeline
March 3rd and March 10th - Classroom teachers will teach lessons in 5th grade classes about middle school readiness.
Spring 2025 Middle School Counselors will visit Peninsula to discuss class choices and forecast electives. I will share more information with 5th grade families when the time comes. Date TBD.

Spring Attendance Challenge
As we head into the spring season, we're excited to launch a friendly class competition to encourage good attendance and combat the common "spring slump." At Peninsula, we believe that regular attendance is crucial for our students' academic success and social growth. That's why we're launching a month-long attendance challenge in March. Each week, the class with the best attendance and the class with the most improved attendance compared to the previous week will receive a small reward. At the end of the month, the class with the best attendance for the month, the class with the most on time students, and the class with the most improved attendance compared to February will both receive extra recess. We hope this friendly competition will motivate our students to prioritize attendance and develop a growth mindset.
In addition to the March Madness competition, we'll continue to celebrate our students' attendance achievements through our regular initiatives. We recognize students who achieve 10-day attendance streaks and reward the entire school with extra recess when 93% of our students are present on a single day. By working together, we can create a climate where our students believe it's essential to be at school and develop a lifelong love of learning.
We're grateful for your ongoing support and encourage you to reinforce the importance of attendance with your child. Let's work together to make this spring season a successful one for all our students. If you have any questions or concerns about our attendance initiatives, please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher or our attendance team.
Warmly,
Peninsula Attendance Team:
David Martinez, Principal; Kate Lefco, Social Worker; Samara Carranza, School Counselor; Jenn Caliman, Student Health Assistant; Sara Solomon, Attendance Secretary
Our class is currently studying Science with Ned.
Mr. Parker, Teacher Ned and I will be rotating our classes for science, social studies and health content this year. Mr. Parker will teach Social Studies, Teacher Ned will teach Science and I will teach Health. Each class will start the year in their homeroom class for a 4 week unit, then rotate for a 4 week unit in another subject, then a 4 week unit in the final subject. After that, we'll rotate back to the first subject, which for us will be Health. For our class, the rotation will be health, science then social studies. Grades and communication about these content areas will come from their respective teachers.
