School counselors work to maximize student success, promoting access to education and equity for all students. We do this work by designing and delivering a schoolwide, comprehensive school counseling program built on the unique needs and voice of the community.
Some responsibilities include:
Help with academic achievement strategies
Help with transitions (elementary to middle school, and middle school to high school).
Classroom counseling lesson instruction
Self-management skills for emotional regulation and interpersonal skill building
Life skills building
Planning for high school, postsecondary options, and career exploration/readiness
Short-term individual counseling
Small group counseling
Referrals for long-term counseling support
Collaboration with families, teachers, administrators, and community partners
Plan and support school-wide events
Participate in school-wide teams
School transitions: elementary to middle school & middle school to high school
