Leaders will engage in an overview of the Ballmer Institute and its core activities of workforce development, service delivery, and research and innovation, and its partnership activities with PPS. They will also preview the upcoming Fall 2022, Ballmer Institute course for educators on the topic of behavioral and emotional self-regulation, including evidence-based strategies for promoting self-regulation in the classroom.

Leaders will engage interactively with and give feedback on design ideas for Leadership Learning throughout the school year, including the learning strands, standards, and PPS Leader Profile. Our goal is to include more building leader voice in planning Leadership learning.

Leaders will engage with a brief overview of IEP Goal development, as well as learn about best practices for teaming with your Special Education staff.

Leaders will engage in an introduction with our RESJ partners about best practices that will show how culturally specific family engagement leads to minimizing achievement gaps in education and will lay the foundation for year long learning around supporting building schools capacity as well as providing specific strategies for specific cultural communities.

Leaders will engage in a session that includes background information on the education and preparation of Counselor, Social Worker, and School Psychologist licenses as well as planning tools and a framework to use with your SSP’s to determine roles and responsibilities as you work to meet the range of student needs in your building. Leaders will leave this session prepared to lead planning, programming and teaming discussions with their SSP team to maximize the unique skill set and expertise of each role.

Leaders will learn the basics for leading a SUN School, including how Community Schools and SUN interact, how SUN and PPS interact, and overlap of goals and strategies that are shared between SUN Community Schools, Multnomah County, and the District Strategic Plan.
