What's a S.U.N. Community School?

SUN (Schools Uniting Neighborhoods) Schools typically offer fun after-school classes for students, parents, and the community. The goal of the SUN School is to create a community hub at Jackson Middle School where parents, neighbors, teachers, and students all join in creative learning opportunities.  SUN School also supports the whole family by helping with school supplies, food, and social services.

We also help facilitate activities like clubs, one-to-one student check-ins, and online programming.

Who do I ask about SUN?

You can reach the Jackson SUN School Site Manager, Liam O'Neill, at loneill@impactnw.org, 503-679-1545  or by stopping by the SUN room, located in room D147 (near the cafeteria) at Jackson. Our non-profit lead agency is Impact NW, an organization that has been serving the Portland community for over 50 years.

About Liam

My name is Liam, you can call me Liam or Mr. Liam.  I was born and raised in Burlington, Vermont, and moved to the Portland area last year.  I love playing music with my band, making beats on my computer, skateboarding, and hanging out with my two cats Gigi and Blaze (pictured left).

I am excited to say that I am the new SUN manager for Jackson Middle School!  SUN stands for Schools Uniting Neighborhoods.  My goal is to help strengthen the Jackson community by making everyone feel that they are included and part of our awesome collective community team!  I am running some really cool after school programs to get students engaged in all types of learning while strengthening their connection with their peers.  With the help of our family resource navigator, Noora Khalaf, I will be supporting with specific family needs and also providing case management for a few students at Jackson.  I also hope to fundraise, take part in community events, and much much more!  I am so excited to be a part of this community!
