"Each level of the Heggerty curriculum provides 35 weeks of daily lessons, focusing on eight phonemic awareness Skills, along with two additional activities to develop Letter and Sound recognition, and Language Awareness. The lessons are designed to deliver Tier 1 phonemic awareness instruction in a whole group setting and only take 10–12 minutes. For students in need of extra support, portions of lessons could be used in a small group and serve as a “second dose” of phonemic awareness instruction.
The three Spanish versions of the curriculum, Conciencia Fonémica, are not a translation of the English curricula. The lessons were created with the bilingual student in mind and can be used in dual language and bilingual classrooms to provide instruction for students as they develop Spanish reading skills. In the daily lessons, students work with 8 phonemic awareness skills. Identifying medial syllables and Phonemic Location are two additional activities included in our Primary version of the curriculum. Daily opportunities for recognizing letter names and sounds, and recognizing syllables are included within the Letter Naming activity and students work with repeating sentences and nursery rhymes during Language Awareness activities."
