Welcome to STEM at Farmingdale Elementary! My name is Betsy Monke, and I get to teach one of the most exciting classes in school—STEM!
In our STEM room, you won’t see rows of desks. Instead, you’ll find a makerspace filled with cardboard creations, robots, tape, and tons of supplies to build just about anything you can imagine. We work together in teams to design, build, test, and improve our ideas. Sometimes we make rockets, sometimes we program robots, and sometimes we invent something brand new that solves a problem.
STEM is all about the 4 C’s: creativity, collaboration, communication, and critical thinking. That means we use our imagination, work with friends, share ideas, and solve challenges in fun and exciting ways.
When I’m not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family. My husband, Rich, and I have been married for over 32 years, and together we have 4 amazing kids who are off on their own exciting adventures. I love traveling with them whenever I can, and the beach is my favorite place to be!
I can’t wait to see the amazing ideas you bring into our STEM room this year. Together, we’ll imagine, explore, and create things we never thought possible!
