RHES was provided with a chance to take a trip to Petco Park where they very much enjoyed the experience. On April 23, they were spoken to by friendly staff members and were led by nice tour guides everywhere in Petco park. From the Western Metal Supply Co. where they were able to sit at one of the highest points in the park, to the $40,000 V.I.P area where they learned about the things that were able to be done there and the closest seats in the park.
One student said that the touring wa the best part, and another said the V.I.P. area was the greatest. At the area they were able to walk through the hall of fame, which was another great area. In all, the trip was just incredible as all students, and staff agreed.
This trip was allowed only because the Poway Unified School District, allowed a set number of schools out of the many in the district to go. It was Rolling Hills 5th grade’s first time in over 40 years to do something like that.

The Kid's Experiences:

Pet Co Park Stadium, April 26, 2024. Rolling Hills Elementary school was one of the six schools to be selected for a unique opportunity. These schools were picked by the Padres organization from the other many schools in Poway. On the day of this special event, the schools chosen were on buses, riding toward the home of the Padres. The field trip was dedicated to teach us kids about the history of the Padres and show us a behind-the-scenes tour of the huge stadium. They were able to get the tour of the stadium with friendly tour guides to speak and guide them through it. Then, after the tour, the kids had lunch on the grass and had time to talk about the fascinating sights! For Rolling Hills. This was the first of being picked for this special field trip, so for many students, it was amazing to see the stadium and everything in it with all the new sights. Many students reported the field trip being an amazing experience for them. Two specific students, Ebie and Grady, had special comments to share about this amazing field trip!
Two students at Rolling Hills had been interviewed about the Padres Pet Co park field trip. Their names are Ebie and Grady, and when interviewed, they had agreed on many things. For one, they both have already been to many Padres games. Grady had also added that she had actually "just went to one two weeks ago!" Ebie states that she was, "very excited" to be able to go on a tour of the stadium, along with Grady. When asked about things that caught their attention, Grady responded, "One thing that especially caught my attention was the spot where Tatis Jr. scored a home run!" Ebie simply answered that everything caught her attention. One thing that Grady and her classmates had done when getting back from the tour to go back on the grass, they had been chanting, "LET'S GO PADRES, LET'S GO!" This was one of Grady's highlights of the trip! She also loved learning about the San Diego chicken, as it was very interesting for her. Ebie claims that, "One of my highlights was definitely attending the home plate club." Both agreed that they would always come back because "the spirit inside the stadium was very energetic" and "to have fun with my friends, eat nice food, and watch the Padres game in person." Both stated very persuasive opinions about all the great things about a Padres game, and why they would go back to one! Though they both loved all the things about the field trip, there were some more negative thoughts on things. Grady and Ebie did not exactly find any jobs they would like to do for a full career, but if they were to, they agreed on the "Trainers" job, and can not see them in any specific job. The last question asked if they play baseball and would play it professionally. Grady says, "No. I might want to try playing baseball as a sport, but not professionally." and Ebie adds, "Yes" as Ebie already is playing softball, and would play it professionally if she ever got the chance to. As you can see, both students agreed on some of the same things, but had their own personal thoughts on other questions.
These schools were picked specially to be a part of this amazing field trip! This year, students had a wonderful time learning about the Padres and getting to see the huge stadium with a behind-the-scenes tour. All the smells, sights, and sounds were fascinating to all the students! Many hope to come back again to see the stadium in all its glory for a Padres game! Let's go Padres!
