Here we grow again!

By Eli Solomon

While some sports and organizations have "seasons," PHS Agriculture is busy year-round. This year’s FFA chapter project will be to place welcome signs around Poteau. The signs will display the message “Poteau FFA  welcomes you!” and be made in-house in the workshop using a Miller Multimatic and brand-new plasma cutters for finer details such as lettering and other designs. While a common misconception is that AG classes are just about farming and growing livestock, this certainly isn’t true for the AG classes are using a MIG (Metal Inert Gas) to create solid and visually pleasing welds and so much more. Something our chapter is currently investing in is different competitive activities.

On September 19th a team of FFA members competed in opening and closing ceremonies and the Greenhand quiz, retaking the quiz on the 26th in hopes of making a higher score. Of the three groups, two groups placed third and the third group placed fourth. A special shoutout to Zac Vaughn whose trailer won the “Best of Show” award at the Arkansas-Oklahoma State Fair; it is now up for sale with any interested buyers needing to contact Zac or any FFA advisor for details. FFA members will be competing in competitions all throughout the season, “I’m excited to show my sheep,” said vice-president Traegan Ballard enthusiastically.
