Content Agenda
Day 1: The Heart of ACT
In Day 1, you can expect to feel all the feels. You’ll engage in ACT activities as a participant. The exercises call upon you to engage with courage. Difficult emotions, thoughts, memories, and bodily sensations arise in these activities. We’ll be there to guide and support you. You are free to sit out any activity that seems too challenging. At the same time, we encourage you to participate actively. The ACT stance is one of being a fellow traveler. Danielle and I, as ACT practitioners, never ask our clients to do anything we ourselves wouldn’t do and do not do. We’ll ask you to do things that we ourselves do. We do the hard things. We laugh. We ponder. We cry. We sing with abandon. This is the heart of ACT.
Day 2: The Head of ACT
You can use ACT in your practice by targeting all the six repertoires over the course of several sessions (cognitive, affective, attentional, perspective-taking, motivational, and behavioral). That’s a bit like throwing the kitchen sink at a person’s difficulties. Many of the things you do won’t land, but something will, eventually. Or, you can guess at what would make the biggest impact. That’s like throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks. The alternative is to learn to identify from a person’s behavior, words, and affect which of the six repertoires they’re struggling with the most and to target it with precision. This is the head of ACT.
Day 3: The Hands of ACT
There are many classic ACT exercises that you can read about and use just the way they are in books. There’s nothing wrong with this, but imagine the difference if you were to develop the skills to co-create interventions with each individual client you serve. In this workshop, you’ll learn to adapt classic ACT exercises and you’ll learn to craft idiosyncratic, unique interventions based entirely on the words your clients use to describe their experiences. From this point forward, you are a sculptor alongside your client. You'll practice flexibly creating experiences in session and linking these experiences back to the desired change in your client's life. Together, you sculpt a way of taking action in life that’s open, aware, and engaged. These are the hands of ACT.
Optional events to enhance your time at the conference.

All attendees who book accomodations at the Hayes Mansion will be treated to dinner and drinks on the patio!

All work and no play? That isn't how we roll. Corn hole on the lawn, board games on the terrace, or pickleball at the nearby park. There are activities for everyone to enjoy.
Evening Group Discussions
