Assistive Listening Devices
Assistive Listening Devices
Assistive Listening devices (ALD) are one type of equipment that can be purchased through this project which may increase access to interpretive programs or experiences for visitors with visual or auditory disabilities. If you're interested in acquiring assistive listening devices for your park site, please follow these easy steps.
For questions or concerns, please contact Scott Shepherd at scott.shepherd@parks.ca.gov or 916-639-4039
Please Note: There are specific California Building Code (CBC) requirements for ALD used in certain venues such as assembly areas. If you wish to purchase ALD for use in a location that meets the definition of an assembly area, please contact the Accessibility Division (access@parks.ca.gov | 916.445.8949) to ensure that the system meets minimum code requirements. See below for the CBC definition of an assembly area.
ALD purchased for use in a location other than an assembly area are exempt from the CBC requirements, however, we recommend that you review CBC requirements to ensure that a product will meet user needs.
Assembly Area. [DSA - AC] A building or facility, or portion thereof, used for the purpose of entertainment, educational or civil gatherings or similar purposes. For purposes of these requirements, assembly areas include, but are not limited to, classrooms, lecture halls, courtrooms, public meeting rooms, public hearing rooms, legislative chambers, motion picture houses, auditoriums, theaters, playhouses, dinner theaters, concert halls, centers for the performing arts, amphitheaters, arenas, stadiums, grandstands, or convention centers.
Please work through your chain of command for approval of the purchase of assistive listening devices for your park site using funding from the Interp & Ed Division.
If you do not see a time that works for your availability, please contact Scott Shepherd at scott.shepherd@parks.ca.gov or via phone at 916-639-4039.
Upon completion of this form, you will receive a confirmation of your request to be added to your outlook calendar.
Following your meeting with Scott, you will be notified upon receipt of approval, and a purchase order will be filed by the Interpretation and Education Division.
