Portland Public Schools is committed to helping children eat a healthy diet so they can be attentive and ready to learn, at home or in the classroom. Meals will be free to all students.
District food service & safety:
K-8 schools will serve breakfast and snack in the classroom or outside. These meals are pre-packaged in a single serving container (box or bag). Grab and Go Lunches will be available to be taken home at the end of the day
High schools will serve breakfast in school. Grab and Go lunches will be available to be taken home at the end of the day.
Students will be allowed to remove masks when eating or drinking but should maintain 6 feet of physical distance

For students learning remotely, ‘grab and go’ breakfast and lunch will be available for in-person and online learners to pick-up at school distribution sites:
+ In the YELLOW Scenario under which PPS will be opening this fall, sites will be: Deering High, Portland High, Casco Bay High and Talbot Community School. Those sites will serve meals daily Monday-Friday, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Peaks Island Elementary School will serve meals from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. Monday-Friday.
+ In a RED Scenario sites would be: Deering High, Portland High, Casco Bay High, Presumpscot Elementary, Reiche Elementary, Rowe Elementary, and Talbot Community School
+ In a GREEN Scenario sites would be: Deering High and Portland High
Meals are available to students enrolled in the Portland Public Schools. On remote learning days, students or parents may pick up meals. Meals will be free to all students.

Information about food resources in the community can be found on our website. It has information about school distribution sites for breakfast and lunch as well as food distribution schedules of non-profit organizations providing food, soup kitchens, and food pantries in Portland.
Meals are prepared at the Portland Public Schools Central Kitchen location, then delivered to sites and held in refrigeration units until distributed.
For walk-up sites, tables are between servers and families to help maintain distance.
All staff, both production and distribution, are required to wear disposable aprons, gloves and adhere to the 6 feet distance rule.
